Sometimes when we are ready for baby to arrive there's tons of advice to bring on labor...
The real way to bring on labor is to do less... Kick up your feet, chill out, get that oxytocin flowing with your favorite activities and LET GO. Doing more won't actually accomplish your goal and might even lead you to needing to restart the whole process (like how we had to reset the backdrop after I tore it).

Here's what I mean by this
Epidurals are amazing tools! I can't tell you how many times I've seen them sace birth experiences.
There are plenty of experts that will encourage non medicated birth. Epidurals can cause issues like blood pressure crashes, difficulty with movements, slowing of labor, issues with drugs interactions with your system or even back pain after your birth.
#1 reason for transfer from out of hospital experiences is due to exhaustion. Labor is just that...labor! It's a stamina game, not one of strength. We want birthers to be fully invested in their birth experience instead of zonked out. It is known that ideally to wait until at least very active labor (5 cm +) to utilize this tool. Sometimes the body just needs a nap to help cross the finish line.

Cascade of interventions
It's when one intervention leads to another and eventually to the greatest intervention of all in birth, a Cesarean birth. The cascade of intervention is a real risk.
I would like to add in the nuance into my personal interaction with Cascade of intervention. I was 41 weeks and a day when I got induced. My body was not ready for labor in the slightest. Time could've been given to it to allow the possibility for spontaneous labor. I consented to an induction for lots of reasons and at that time seemed completely reasonable.
My 4 days were rough. Everything was thrown at my body and she won that battle. I thank my body for doing its job. (Also how in character to have an issue with authority). Time is what my body was demanding. Now I preach that the average for spontaneous labor is 41 weeks and 1 day to 41 weeks and 3 days.
I've also seen the need to get baby earthside for a variety of reasons and how the cascade of intervention doesn't come crashing down on every birther. This was so eye opening when I became a doula. It's so easy to want a villain in interventions even when the reality is they can be life saving.
Ultimately sometimes a bunch of interventions are needed to keep the birther and baby safe and sometimes it's better to wait for the body to do its thang.
this can only be achieved through informed decisions, education and a team who's got your back with similar goals in mind. Here's to more births that are gonna be safe and have a great time and less of "what the Jesus Christ was that"

There's no way to guarantee a vaginal birth. There are so many factors that determine how birth plays out. This is a hard pill to swallow for a control freak like my self....
Here's the good news
You can guarantee something's in your birth
Hiring a team (providers, doulas, ibclc) who got your back
Getting into a kick ass childbirth class to teach you everything you need to know
Taking that knowledge to make decisions that further your goals and comfort
Making peace with this is a wild ride
Ultimately you can't guarantee you'll have a vaginal birth but you can be excited to tell this birth story for the rest of your life 🪄

✨ Get Plenty of Rest - Cesarean is a major surgical event, it deserves rest as much as any other surgical event.
✨ Ask for Help - It will take a while to recover from your surgery, plus you just had a baby, so it's okay to ask for help. You can ask family, friends, your spouse, or a doula to come help.
✨ Process Emotions - Sometimes, cesarean birth is not our preferred birth method. This can cause mixed emotions about our birthing experience. Sometimes, even if it is our preferred birth method, just the act of giving birth can set our emotions on high. It's good and healthy to process these. If you are worried about Postpartum Depression its good to seek advice from your Birth Wizard and medical support team.
✨ Seek Help for Feeding - Sometimes conventional methods of holding your baby for feeding can be painful. Talking to a lactation specialist can help you find a comfortable way to feed your baby.
✨ Take Regular Walks - Go slow and easy at first, stop when it's painful. Slowly you can increase your gentle walks to strengthen your abdominal muscles. Ask your provider before undertaking strenuous exercises.

This week I am going to share with you a tiny bit about how a Birth Wizard supports a birther physically during labor and delivery.

✨Massage and Counter pressure - All during labor a birthers body is pushing and pulling in various ways. With massage and counter pressure, this can help alievate some of the pain and strain caused by contractions. This can help relax the birther increase oxytocin, get relief for a moment, and actually progress labor quicker.

✨ Create a calming environment - How do you releax after a hard day at work, or taking time for self care, or even to be intimate. This environment is the same environment to maximize relaxation and oxytocin during labor and birth.

✨ Helping the birther into positions - This one sounds pretty self explanatory. There are many ways to move a body to help progress labor. Your Birth Wizard keeps that knowledge for you until the right moment to help you ease into a new position.

✨ Assisting with water therapy, or a damp cloth - Have you ever had a physically exhausting day, hop into the shower and just feel the water run over you. It melts away the stress and anixty, relaxes the muscles, and creates a calmness inside of you. Same thing applies to labor. After a surgical birth, you may need to try different feeding positions, and that is okay! You may have learned many ways to feed your baby in birth class, but now find that those are uncomfortable after your surgical birth - you are allowed to try something different.

That's a wonderful thing about living your story, you get to write it and that includes how you feed your baby. If you find sitting up uncomfortable on your incision site, you might try a laying down position. If you are struggling to find what's best for you, you may consider contacting a lactation consultant.

The ultimate goal is you are comfortable feeding your new baby, so optimal bonding can happen.

🤥 Myth 1: C-Sections are more traumatic for the baby.
🔮 We know under the right circumstances a cesarean birth can be less traumatic than a vaginal birth. We know there is no one right way to have a baby, and all options are valid. A blatant statement like this is more harmful than helpful.

🤥 Myth 2: Cesarean surgery is easier to recover from than a vaginal delivery
🔮 Cesarean is a MAJOR surgery that takes 6 weeks to heal from. During that time rest is needed, just as you would need from any other major surgery.

🤥 Myth 3: You will never be able to lift weights again.
🔮 You will be lifting your children eventually after recovery, they are heavy. It is best to check with your provider to make sure you are healed up before taking on your usual exercise routine, but over time you should be able to resume normal activities.
